Archaic English! What's the Deal with That?

"How Great Thou Art" is a classic Hymn, but when preachers and others besides the Quakers, that one would expect to use such annoying language, use all those out of date terms, it works my very modern nerves to the very last frazzled end!

And I tell you that King James' English is not anymore sacred than just speaking normally to God!

I have not the physical fortitude yet this morning, having not recovered from my heart problem of this past week, to get off to church yet, so I am watching Sunday morning TV preachers, and James Kennedy gave a nice speech about Life, and then he ventured off into an overdone Thee and Thou prayer to the Lord, and that was just too much! I do not mean a little bit, but he laid it on so thick, like an old time Presbyterian preacher of one or two or more hundred's of years ago would do!

When I pray any of the Church prayers I always do them normally like God understands regular English! But even at Church the prayers have some Thees and Thous in them, but if one prayed a normal prayer from the heart and used Thees and Thous, I would be more than a little stretched to be into all that! But I even prayer the Our Father in normal words when it is only myself in prayer to God!

I usually pray this way,

"Dear Father God;

In Jesus' name I pray, Heal me, Bless me, and let me be a healer and a blesser to all those around me...

(The Body of the Prayer Here!)

Thank you! Amen!"

Or I pray something like that!

And see, no Thees and Thous in my verbiage!

It is Always Winter, All Summer Long in My Old Hometown!

Give Me the Palm Trees and Even Temperatures, with the City Scapes and Lovely Ocean Views!

I miss all that as well as my 'hometown' on the happy beautiful coast!

I miss it all!

And no matter how supposedly 'spiritual' that everyday I may seem to get, I cannot shake my heartbreaking sadness over my homesickness for my ocean coast 'hometown'!

I miss Seal Rock, and the Camera Obscura, as well as the Cliff House and the sand and waves and cool Summer wind blowing through my being, and I miss the Nickelodeon with all of its very old museum quality coin operated machines from old days gone by!

I miss Chinatown and North Beach and the Transamerica, and the Sutro and other towers' view up on Twin Peaks and far across from my Nobhill apartment windows' views... which would now be several thousands of dollars in costs (and cheaper to buy!) just to even think about re-renting to move into and happily live there once again now!

So I found the movie "Vertigo" to purchase at a little discount at Hastings Book and Film Store, and I can now watch it again and again, with or without the sound, just to retour in my mind and on the viewing screen as well, all that I remember and miss about my old 'hometown'!

There was a Prophet Named Elisha, Some Children and Two She Bears!

After Elijah, Elisha's spiritual father ascended to Heaven to be with God, some children were making fun of Elisha, and telling him to "Go up baldy! Go up baldy!" And Elisha turned on those children and pronounced judgment and a curse on them, and two she bears came out of the woods and tore those children to bloody pieces!

That's the Bible! So the lesson here is that we should not pick on or abuse God's holy preachers and servants or we might end up being a bit of Bear Chow!

 The Spirit of Poverty!

I know of a minister who was ministering the Word of God through a region a few years ago, as well as helping all those in need as best he could, and all ministries do take a bit of funding to do what they do; but the community of well off Christians in that region decided that that ministry's needs were all a result of it's minister having "a spirit of poverty", so they would not support him! Or that was their excuse or reason for not doing so!

That ministry is closed now, and the poor are still poor there, the lost are still lost, and the drug and alcohol addicts are still addicts, and it is like that story Jesus told about when a demon leaves a man and wanders over dry places and decides to return to the man that it possessed before, and finding him all clean and swept but empty, it goes and finds seven more demons such as itself, and they all return to the man, and his condition ends up being worse then before!

And Jesus said "So shall it be with this group of people, who heard the Message, but would not remain in it, so their end is worse than they were before!"
